What better way to stoke those positive endorphins than to be out in the fresh air, taking advantage of nature’s free medicine.

Nature is undoubtedly one of the best medicines for both our mental and physical health. The best part, at least the majority of the time, hiking is free. 

Nature High was created to remind and encourage you to get outside! We have organized small group hikes. Walk or hike, just being out and about does wonders for your mental and emotional health.

Our hiking guide Ema Summited Mount Everest on May 13, 2022. She became the first Portuguese person to summit the 7 Summits, both versions! She is also became one of very few Canadians to have done so.

Don’t worry, you don’t have to want to climb these big mountain. Hiking is just an opportunity to get out of the house, breathe in some fresh air and enjoy some of Ontario’s backyard. If you want to join her, contact Ema below, to find out where her next hike is to join. Spots are limited.

Meet Ema Dantas

When Ema first started, she thought hiking was just going for a walk, in the woods, and on unpaved surfaces. She didn’t understand proper footwear or the need for hydration. When she saw other people on trails with trekking poles (which she affectionately called “walking sticks”), she thought they were silly!

She quickly came to realize there was much more to hiking than she assumed. The physical and mental health benefits of the outdoors were enormous, priceless actually, and at the risk of sounding like a cliché, she learned hiking was also a great physical activity. She learned that in order to do hiking well, get fit and be mentally healthy, she had to consider proper nutrition as well!

In her mid 40s, one of her employees at Language Marketplace Inc. was diagnosed with ALS. Ema was inspired to start running and ran marathons to raise funds for ALS. Shortly after, her Mom died alone, after a couple of decades of suffering from mental illness and being overdosed with meds that clearly did not work. This propelled Ema to climb mountains to bring awareness to the necessity of ending the stigma on mental health through a charity called Peaks for Change Foundation.

To climb these great summits, Ema works hard to get herself in shape, trains regularly and eats healthy. Before you ask, yes, she still eats cookies and drinks milk before bed (she won’t give that up). She has climbed 7 summits in her effort to climb the world’s highest mountains by continent and is preparing for her final climb – Everest.
